How do I create my own sidechain like Polygon for scaling dapps

I want to scale my application with a layer 2 scaling protocol like Polygon but I also need it to be an in house tool running on our own servers.

I have started by forking the Polygon repo and individually configuring the files to fit our network but it seems too inefficient. I'd be greatful if anyone with more experience than me could guide me in the right direction. Thank you!
