Provable Random Numbers in Blockchain – What are the best options?

“Random number generation in blockchain should be provable and use a verifiably random seed to extract randomness from physical phenomena. In addition to this, RNG should be simple, fast and cheap to implement into blockchain projects”

Do you agree?

For some, true randomness comes from having a physical variable in the mix. The wall of lava lamps in Cloudflare's lobby spring to mind! Others say that pseudo-random numbers are good enough.

Either way, cost might be a limiting factor, if you need to call random numbers from a smart contract. So, what are the pros and cons of current options and should hardware random number generation be an option?
