Account termination from crypto wallet provider – what happens to my staked ETH?
So, when logging in this morning to my Etoro money account, I was unable to see, access or anything at all with my crypto.
After speaking with customer service they gave me a cryptic message about having "an open case with operations team" and shortly after, I received an email notifying me of the termination of my account with Etoro under section 26.5 (see end of post).
As far as I'm aware I am not involved in any breaches or security or regulatory risks or similar. I'm just a 33 y/o dude who does a little trading and holds a little crypto on the side!
I'm not bothered about my stock trading account as I moved most of my assets from Etoro, but I have around 5-6 ETH staked with them. Is there any way to move this to another provider or retain access? Any advice?
Disclaimer: I know Etoro are sucky which is why I was moving out, but assumed my staked ETH would be safe.
(Etoro T&Cs 26.5: We will take reasonable steps to provide you with appropriate notice if we freeze, block, or terminate our Services and/or your eToro account. However, there might be times when we are required to freeze, block, or terminate our Services and/or your eToro account without telling you in advance. We will do this if we reasonably believe that there is a security or regulatory risk, you have breached the Agreement, there is an Exceptional Event, we are required to do so by Applicable Law or by a regulator, and/or there is an application, order, resolution or another announcement in relation to a winding up/bankruptcy in which you are involved.)
