Coinbase Eth2 staking

So when I was new to crypto I thought it’d be a good idea to lock away some eth from myself in anticipation of eth2 launching in the coming months. I fully understand that it’s locked until eth2 is ready but I vaguely remember seeing someone say if you turn off the rewards through coinbase that it would release the eth. Is there anyone who can help me by confirming this?
