Will L2 scaling solutions become redundant after the Merge?

When (if) Ethereum successfully switches to POS it should finally solve the scalability problem on L1. In that case, will all the L2 solutions become redundant? I am still noob in this area, so please forgive me if that question does not capture the nuance of the upcoming changes (transition from PoW to PoS on Ethereum network). I will be grateful for any feedback in this thread. I will also be grateful for pointer to any papers/articles that a non-technical person will be able to digest.
