Creating an ethereium replica to benchmark its scalability

Hi, i have read about Ethereum and learned about its scalability and how its generally setup. My goal is to benchmark its TPS and therefore im looking for some guidance when developing an Ethereium replica.

Maybe Etherium already offers something similar such as private setup where developers can change the underlying protocol to benchmark scalability?

Any guidance such as language of choice and assistance will be appreciated.
