ETH Decentralization

Hey all ETH fellas, sorry if this comes as spam or something similar but I have been asking myself wether or not to invest on some ETH. As of now I’m really inclined to do it however there’s a big if that’s keeping me from going forward, mainly since I’m planning to throw some substantial sum with the set and forget mentality. Back in 2016 there was a relevant hard fork with ETH, from what I read there was some hacker(s) who stole over 20 million USD which resulted in the ETH team rolling back and as a consequence ETH was born and ETC followed its independent path with the hacking embedded on the network whereas ETH sort of deleted it and refunded all the harmed holders, continuing from there. Currently, they are two completely and independently separate things. My question is the following : if the ETH team was allowed to change as they liked what needed to be changed, doesn’t that mean that the word decentralization kinda loses value ? Isn’t the whole point of ETH, and all the other crypto’s that consider themselves decentralized, to not allow such decisions from their respective teams ? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti crypto, actually far from that, been here for over 1 year and already made some solid profits. If anyone could help me understand this, I would be thankful.

P.S: Im well aware that we should only invest based on DYOR and thankfully I’m capable of doing so, I’m just looking for some explanation on this matter

P.S.2: scammers don’t even try
