Why yes, this is a post of calm reassurance from someone who has been here before.
I'm seeing a lot of raw emotion out there. And I get it. Crypto is getting bigger every year, so a lot of people are in this space who haven't seen 30, 50, or 70% dips in their holdings.
But, I'm going to just calmly tell you that it's going to be ok. All the clichés are true – you only lose if you sell, and if you buy what you can afford to lose, then losing it won't be the end of your story.
I can't promise a full-on winter isn't coming, but even if it does, the people who bought before the last winter ended up in profit by the time it ended, on many (but not all) coins.
So whatever you choose to do – to sell in anticipation of it dropping lower, or to hold until you see gains again – just know that those of us who have been in crypto for years have survived worse than this.
The "legendary gains" on many cryptocurrencies came with big dips/crashes/corrections along the way. $800 or $1000 ETH sounds like a killer deal today, but lots of us saw it tumble 80-90% before picking back up to where it is today.
Yeah, it sucked for those of us who held. Yeah, anyone who bought in near the top got hurt for a while.
But it turned out fine. More than fine. Quadrupling your money in three years feels slow and disappointing relative to many crypto gains, but that's an insane ROI in terms of any investment, period, and most of us who hung around during the winter kept buying at the $100-$200 mark.
Just wanted to put some calm reassurance out there that the world isn't ending. This trend may reverse in a month or two. Doubtful we see another year-plus winter. But even if we do….
TLDR: It'll be ok.
