Visa pushes crypto adoption, also believes in NFTs

Credit card provider Visa has more than 60 partnerships with crypto platforms, its head of crypto says in an interview. It also wants to get into the NFT business.

In an interview with NDTV, Visa's crypto chief Cuy Sheffield provided insight into the payment service provider's strategy. He shared that the company has doubled its crypto partners in the last 18 months to promote scale and scope.

NFTs are another exciting aspect of the crypto ecosystem that we are following closely at Visa. NFTs have the potential to be a powerful accelerator for the creative industries. They are the barrier to entry for individual creators to earn a living through digital commerce.

He sees crypto adoption on the rise – thanks in large part to Visa itself. The company sees itself as a "bridge" connecting the crypto industry to its global network of 80 million merchants and 15,000 financial institutions.

"Crypto is not just a technological phenomenon or an asset class. It's also a deeply cultural thing. Many consumers believe a movement is underway and cryptocurrencies will be part of the future of money", Sheffield continues. It remains to be seen whether Visa will continue to expand its efforts in the crypto space in 2022.
