Why are gas fees still so high on ENS?

I understand that eth has a lot of hype, mining and that, but why are the gas fees so high for a domain on ENS. The domain itself is like 10 bucks for 2 years and then the gas fee is $200. Will this get better? Better as in maybe 40 dollars gas fee?
