Signing a transaction with metamask,any risk associated with it?

I know if you allow a malicious contract to spend your coins you can get your wallet drained,but that got me wondering is there any dangers associated with signing a message?

From my understanding signing a message is just a way for dap to confirm my private key against the public address.
