Will a transaction with a much lower gas fee be executed the gas price drops?

I've been waiting to make defi transaction for a few weeks, but the fees are way too high for me. I just had the idea to enter a much lower fee that I'm okay with, and when the fees drop, say within a few weeks, it will get picked up by miners and executed. Will this work or will the transaction get lost more quickly?
