Converting Token Symbols into Token Addresses reliably

Is there a way of converting Token symbols to addresses reliably?

e.g. GRT -> 0xc944e90c64b2c07662a292be6244bdf05cda44a7

(which is The Graph Symbol and address)

What I currently do is manually type the symbol into Coingecko and copy the contract they display.

I would like to do this programmatically through an API or using a json mapping of saved contract address and token names.

Is there a github repo which might log all contracts and symbols?
