Deploying an NFT contract to Polygon & then bridging the minted NFTs to L1

Please correct me if I make any incorrect statements.

• You can deploy an NFT contract to Polygon
• You can mint NFTs from this contract on Polygon
• You can bridge NFTs from Polygon to L1.

Is it necessary to also bridge the contract to L1 before the NFTs can be bridged? What happens if you don't do this?
