Staking Ethereum vs staking RPL

As the title says, I'm interested in learning about the rewards of staking Ethereum vs staking RPL. Assuming I have 32 Eth, that would be enough for 1 Ethereum validator node or ~2 RPL nodes. Which one would net more returns?

How does the answer change if I stake all 32 eth on 1 RPL node vs splitting it into 2 nodes? Will the merge to POS change the answer?
