Do I need ETH in my MetaMask wallet to receive an NFT?

Question in Header. Meta Mask guide on receiving an NFT has "Make sure you have enough ETH to pay for gas" as second point. Do I need to pay gas to only receive an NFT? Do I need to have Eth in my wallet?
