How and when can ETH2 solve the high gas fees?

The title says it all. If it has been discussed before in this sub, happy to be redirected. Will eth2-merge solve the high gas fees? By solving I mean having gas fees in the range of cents to couple of bucks. Or is eth2 not enough to solve this issue? we have to wait until sharding/multichains?
