Hacking the nonce to double spend ether

I am currently studying the ethereum white paper and I came to wonder why the nonce can't be used to double spend?

When I write a client and I just refuse to increase the nonce for outgoing transactions, how is the double spending detected and how is it rejected by the network?

Are there more use cases to the nonce other than prevent double spending?
