Are the gas fees ever likely to be dramatically reduced on Ethereum?

Ethereum in an incredible technology, and I’m a huge fan of everything that’s being built on the platform. But the fees are insane. To the extent that it’s becoming unusable for regular people. Is this likely to be addressed by anything on the current roadmap?
