Why no flat NFT gas fee for Multiple mints

Hey guys, I've tried a few NFT mints, and my understanding is the gas fee stays the same whether you mint one or multiple NFTs. Everytime I try to mint though, the gas goes up incrementally according to number of mints. Is this normal? If not, is there some way I can resolve this issue?
