Notes on 3070TI Eagle thermal pad replacement

I have a gaggle of 3070TI GPUS mining RVN. I started with an Eagle because of the compactness but learned quickly that it had memory temperature problems. In order to keep the memory below 100C I had to run it 60 PL and 95% Fan for a hashrate of 28ish. It was disappointing to say the least. I finally had a slow afternoon and decided to see what a thermal pad upgrade would do for it. I've seen a lot of questions about which sizes and how many pads you need so I'm posting what I used in the hopes it will be helpful.

I purchased Thermalright Extreme Odyssey 1mm and 2mm.

On the backside I used 45x20x2, 45x20x2 and 30x20x2 as new pads behind the 3 banks of memory chips.

On the frontside I replaced 5 existing pads with 30x20x2, 45x20x2, 40x15x1, 65x10x1 and 65x7x1.

My new specs for rehabilitated card are:

PL 75, Fan 80, Mem +1000 Temp 62/88 HR 35.5 MH/s which is a nice improvement for a board that was running slower than the average of my 2080 supers.

I hope this helps someone who has been considering a thermal pad replacement and hasn't been able to figure out which pads to purchase.

I had a false start when the board wouldn't boot after the upgrade and went back in for a closer look. The original pads fell apart and there was a lot of smeg on the pcb. Do yourself a favor and do a good job cleaning. A magnifying glass and a toothpick help get the bits and pieces out. Once I cleaned up the board I had a good boot. Thankfully whatever was shorting didn't do any permanent damage.
