Do all client nodes have the ability to execute a smart contract when invoked at runtime?

From a programming perspective, the execution of a particular smart contract is like invoking a method. At runtime, executing the smart contract code will incur additional computation of top of traditional mining/hashing. My question is which client machine or machines actually run these contracts when invoked?
