How do you mine without a pool?

Can I mine straight to my wallet? I know it's rng and will take a long time, but I'm okay with that. Can I just put my wallet address in? Pretty much all of the videos/how-to guides I find are for pools.

It's also really hard to find any info on how to use the kawpowminer. The github page is confusing and really technical. I like when someone can take that info and put it in plain English.
