Zero Knowledge Proofs and Ethereum Potential

I am curious to learn more about what others think the potential is of ZK snark protocols in the future. It seems an obvious one might be to have reliable/trusted elections. What ideas are there for the use of these new protocols? Thanks for any input as I try to learn what I can and try to imagine the potential future.
