Arbitrum, the first general-purpose Ethereum L2, is launching tomorrow! And the Uniswap community has voted to deploy there!
Just wanted to give a quick refresher for anyone not following these developments.
There was lots of excitement around Optimism in the past, although it seems that lots of that excitement faded after Optimism delayed their launch date.
Now, it seems that Arbitrum is going to beat them to launch, with their mainnet launching tomorrow!
(Side note, this is why competition is so great)
With excitement growing around Arbitrum, the Uniswap community created a proposal to deploy Uniswap V3 on Arbitrum. This was a little controversial, as Uniswap was originally only planning on launching on Optimism, and Uniswap's lead investor is also a major investor in Optimism.
But the vote is set to pass, and Hayden has tweeted that they'll move forward with deploying on Arbitrum!
So what does this mean for the end user? Eventually, lower fees. It will take time for applications to deploy on Arbitrum and for users to move funds over, but over time, users should expect around 100x gas savings, and even more once Eth2 increases data availability.
Get excited! Scalability is happening!
