Hashrate increase FREE!!

maybe I'm such a noob and everyone knows about this, but I recently had a thought, if my gpu had to use less work to display my screen, wouldn't that free up some MH/s?

so I set my screen resolution to 800/600 and my hash rate went up about 1 MH/s.

is this a fluke or a real thing?
