Merchant processing on Ethereum
I’d love to get some thoughts on what the future of merchant processing built on Ethereum could look like.
I really think that until cryptocurrency can be cheaply accepted by merchants, it will never come close to its full potential.
How are the relatively high transfer fees handled ? I assume this could be mitigated by “batching” many transactions together.
How would a merchant verify the customer has enough crypto tho without the batch going through ?
Most merchants are paying 2%~ of all their credit card processing in fees, and credit cards are usually the vast majority of transactions now.
If crypto was able to be accepted at 1% or less, you would start to see mass adoption and incentives for customers to use crypto.
I run a business and paying tens of thousands of dollars every year in processing doesn’t ever feel good, but as it stands now, I don’t know of any easy way for my customers to pay for regular , small transactions at retail.
There have to be solutions being worked on by much smarter people than me – what does that look like ?
DeFi and all that is great, but until people can actually use crypto daily, it will be a hobby and investment, not a tool.
