Noob Question

I'm still waiting for my newly created Raven wallet to sync. But I can create receive addresses.

If I were to have someone send RVN to my address before a full sync is that okay? I understand sending from my side can't take place. But with receiving eventually my wallet will download the full chain and see the transaction and recognize that I have X.XX RVN.

Or is it that my receive address doesn't even exist to the blockchain until I wait for the whole 3 years+ to sync first?
