Staking timeframe (my apologies if this has been asked recently, I looked and didn’t see it)

Alright, so I'm considering staking my ETH, but I'm somewhat concerned about the fact that I can't touch it indefinitely after that.

I've read that the expected timeframe is 1-2 years before it can be unstaked. How likely is it that this will be the case? That amount of time is fine, but if it's going to turn into five years or more, I wouldn't want to do it.
