Do you remember theDAO? How did one get the tokens refunded?

I am trying to put together some pieces in my memory.

What was the process for the refund?

I am asking because I have an ETH address for which I don't have control anymore (auch!), and it received a DAO refund:

The oldest transaction is just me buying ETH at an exchange.

Then on May 6, 2016 I created a DAO token for 2.0494 ETH (you cannot see it here, I did it on Bity.com with fiat money). So I guess it was a "custodial" situation?

Finally, I receive a refund to my address above on Aug 9, 2016. Would have this been possible if this was simply a paper wallet? Was it possible to request a refund to any ETH address?

I promise a tip if any info allows me to get this ETH back….
