Question about moving from coinbase

I’ve been leaning toward moving off coinbase. Recently miners show of power and hesitancy toward proof of stake got me thinking. If eth was to split would I just not receive the forked chain coins being on coinbase. I feel like coinbase would steal it like airdrops…
