ETH 2 and EIP-1559

is EIP-1559 only a piece of the puzzle on the road to ETH2, does ETH2 only really take off when docking to the beacon chain is completed. Also I have seen a lot of posts saying it may come quicker than expected, is this referring to EIP-1559, docking or some other intermediary step?
